Proangiogenic role of tumor-activated hepatic myofibroblasts.

Dominion Pharmakine scientists have demonstrated in collaboration with Scott L Friedman (New York, NY) that myofibroblast-like cells are already present during avascular growth of developing hepatic metastases, prior to endothelial cell recruitment, and create a proangiogenic microenvironment facilitating endothelial cell recruitment and survival during metastasis transition from an avascular to a vascular stage.
